And now you want to declassify information for political reasons. Maybe this year, maybe another year, the Democrats are going to win the White House again. Are there some classified reports about WMDs from the CIA that might be embarassing, you think? Some contrarian views on Iraq? What if they were released selectively? For political reasons?
Who cares? All that's important is the coming election, right? Well, no. Those of you in government leave behind a lot more than just elections won and lost. And when you attack the integrity with which security-sensitive information is concealed or released, when you abuse the rationale of national security to score some cheap points, then you attack democracy at its most vulnerable point.
