First, it appears that Reform Ohio Now (RON) has secured more than enough signatures to get its three proposed election-reform measures on the ballot in November. The proposed amendments would roll back the newly-enacted increase in campaign contribution limits, create an independent panel to oversee elections, and create an independent panel to oversee redistricting.

The second bit of good news, you ask? Republican state legislators have withdrawn a proposed amendment of their own which would have delayed implementation of nonpartisan redistricting until after the 2010 census. If the amendment passes, redistricting will begin in 2007, based on 2000 census data.
