I'm convinced that one plank of the 2004 Democratic Platform needs to be about returning dignity, accountability and transparency to the office of the presidency.
To that end I've been pushing what Civil Sibyl (http://jefflieber.dailykos.com/user/uid:1000) has helped coin the Forthright Promise.

But last night it occurred to me that Kerry needs to go further. He needs to give a speech saying that when he becomes president he will form a Truth Commission (akin to Desmund Tutu's Truth Commission in South Africa) that will be a true airing of all the details of 9/11 along with a chance for those in the FBI and CIA to come forward, tell their stories, and start a real healing of America.
He should say...
...I'm not afraid of telling America the whole truth...
...I'm not afraid to bring our missteps out into the sunshine so that all American's can feel more confident that this will never happen again...
...I'm not afraid to forgive those who were trying their hardest, but understandably couldn't see the forest through the trees....
...I... John Kerry... AM NOT AFRAID... and that's why I'm the right man to be the next president of the United States of America.
