Did anyone see 60 Minutes tonight? All about the government turning its back on a drug that will be useful in a nuclear attack, because it will reduce radiation poisoning. The company that made and researched the drug had a commitment from the government to buy a significant stockpile, and so proceeded with research.
Then a Brownie intervened.
The report then turns to Stewart Simonson, the Bush appointee at HHS who is the head of Project Bioshield - the immense govt. project that is supposed to protect us in a bioterror attack (this apparently includes a nuclear attack also). Simonson put a stop to the stockpile program and ordered a meaningless 100,000 doses, laughably insufficient. Simonson is a political hack from the Brownie School of Public Service - and even the GOP chair of the oversight committee (Tom Davis)is calling for his removal.

Just wait until a dirty bomb goes off and Bush says "Nobody predicted......." The report concludes with Lee Hamilton calling out Bush for his lack of leadership and willingness to staff a critical post with another incompetent.
