I don't know what to make of this story suggesting that two Louisiana Democratic Party big shots both had to pick up the phone and call
Rodney Alexander (D LA-5, Monroe)to
urge him not to leave the Democratic Party.
Republicans have been courting Alexander since long before he was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 2002, but up until now most experts have agreed that he would stay put. That's why John Breaux's quote on the matter is so discouraging, "I'd be deeply disappointed if he walked away from the people of the party that helped get him elected" That's not exactly optimistic.
Perhaps the most disconcerting thing about all of this is that the story lacks much real context. What has happened in the last few days that made this such a pressing issue now? I thought the GOP had resigned themselves to running another Republican in LA-5 because Alexander was (somewhat) solidly indebted to the Democratic Party. Unfortunately, as much as I want to know what's going on here, I almost hope I don't see anything else about this story, because the only thing newsworthy that could really come out of it is whether Rodney Alexander actually makes the switch.
