You may have missed it over the weekend, but Wal-Mart has apologized for its Flagstaff Nazi Ad of last week. Unforunately, they only apologized for invoking Nazi Germany. Wal-Mart still hasn't apologized for comparing zoning regulation to a book-burning or destroying the right to worship.
Luckily, Wal-Mart Watch is on the case!:
Wal-Mart is trying to brush off this incident, but we need answers. Call Wal-Mart and get your friends to do the same.
While we appreciate that Wal-Mart has stopped running these offensive ads, this apology does not go far enough. It does not explain why Wal-Mart and their allies felt the need to use such graphic and offensive imagery in a political campaign.
As Wal-Mart itself stated at the bottom of the apology:
If you have any questions, please contact us at 479-204-9040.
So, as Wal-Mart Watch suggests, call Wal-Mart at 479-204-9040 and ask them to explain their behavior.
Here are some good starter questions:
- Is it OK to compare your opponents in a zoning election to bookburners even if they aren't Nazis?
- What does shopping at Wal-Mart have to do with Freedom of Speech or Religion?
- Why does Flagstaff need so many Wal-Marts anyway?
