I am
Barry Welsh and I am the Congressional Candidate challenging Mike Pence in Indiana's 6th District. I start most of my diaries this way because that is what I was instructed to do after launching our campaign so that people would know it was me. I normally don't get to post at this time, so hello to all of you that I do not yet know!
First I want to say Thank You to all of the netroots. We have gone over $5,000 in on line contributions. These are primarily 5, 10 and 20 dollar donations, so it takes a lot of them to get to $5000 and we again thank each and every one of you. We have had some people that have been very very generous, and a special thank you to them. It may not sound like a lot of money, but with all of the groups and campaigns in competition for a ever shrinking disposable income, it is quite an accomplishment for a progressive campaign from Indiana.
Also there is a new audio interview up and a new Jack Carter for Senate in Nevada audio interview up at Stewart O'Neill's Political Interviews Dot Com
I just wanted to add a couple of photos to show that the Grassroots are alive and well here in Indiana. This photo was taken looking at the Democratic Tent at a county fair. There were so many Democratic supporters there, that the fair board brought out traffic barricades to keep us from blocking foot traffic. The barricades had to remain up even during `Republican night at the fair' and there were STILL more Democrats than Republicans by a huge majority. That is not an exaggeration. This has been going on all across the district.
People want to spend a minute, look you in the eye, and tell you that you have their vote, or find out what your position is on their front burner issue.
The media exposure in the district is picking up too.
As are the speaking invitations.
We are going to have a Blograiser, thanks due to NYBri's State Senate Campaign, for this innovation. The Blograiser will be coming in a couple of weeks and details will be released soon.
I have said many times that no matter where you live, Mike Pence impacts you, and it is true. But I want to say something to Everyone in INDIANA, right now.
I have been campaigning off and on alongside Indiana Secretary of State Candidate Joe Pearson, including a three hour stint last night . Indiana needs Joe Pearson for Secretary of State. The Secretary of State, among other duties, controls the elections. Joe is an intelligent, down to earth, committed, public servant with the skills and experience to be a great Secretary of State, and I hope all of you across Indiana will work for, vote for, and financially support Joe Pearson
Finally, and we have this on video tape, last night a gentleman came up to me, and asked for one of my "Had Enough?" stickers, one of the Had Enough T-shirts, and a few yard signs. He was the Republican past President of the County Council, and said he had been a Republican all his life, but was ashamed of what was going on Nationally and was not voting Republican this time. He said he Had Enough, and wanted to help us! If one person of this caliber is angry enough to actually put up signs and get active for us, how many are just going to quietly vote for us?
We need to get the name recognition and marketing cranked up, and if you have helped us already, THANK YOU again, if you have not sent a little something, please consider doing so over the final 90 days. We do not have any debt, so your donation is not going to pay interest on a loan. We are shooting 30 second TV spots tomorrow and Friday that will be up on youtube and our website soon. Your donation will go to radio spots, billboards, cable TV ads, door hangers, yard signs, everything that is part of a campaign over an area the size of the State of New Hampshire. None of your donations will be wasted.
I hate doing that. I hate asking for money to change the direction of our nation. I am going to be a leader in the push for public financing of campaigns and media access.
Elections shouldn't be about money, but until we can change that, they are, and when running a shoe string campaign, you still have to have the shoe string!
