Sorry about the short length. The BBC has received a copy of the last memo sent by the former UK ambassador to Iraq, William Patey. They lead with:
Civil war is a more likely outcome in Iraq than democracy, Britain's outgoing ambassador in Baghdad has warned Tony Blair in a confidential memo.
William Patey, who left the Iraqi capital last week, also predicted the break-up of Iraq along ethnic lines.

This hardly seems as a surprise to those that know even a little about the creation of Iraq by British cartographers. It is not all bad news, but he says that it will take at least five years if a successful outcome is to be achieved, in which (get this) "the next six months are crucial". A Friedman!
