(this is a response to
this list, specifically item number 8)
Mr. Allen,
I'm a regular reader of the Top 10 Conservative Idiots column; in fact I've sent links to my friends and I've sent a submission once also. I like how the feature regularly and appropriately skewers the antics of idiot politicians.
That said, I'm deeply disturbed by a part of today's Top 10 list, specifically item number 8: Red State Chickenhawks. The item has an illustrated map showing the hometowns of our troops who have been killed in Iraq. The item tries to make the point that more soldiers from blue states have died than from red states, but it comes off as a horribly ghoulish implication that the casualties from blue states are "brave" and that our losses from red states are "cowards". The author doesn't even mention any mitigating factors such as: the population of red states, the assignments of national guardsmen from specific states, or even the total number of soldiers killed in the red states versus the blue states.
I'm sad to see such casual disregard of our soldiers lives within one of my favorite feature on DU. I beg you to rescind this item from the Top 10 list, and furthermore I ask that you issue an apology to your readers and to all members of the US military (regardless of which state they're from).
Sincerely,
Corinna C
