"...and as the long, torturous reign of Saddam Hussein comes to an end, Iraqis now can begin to really taste the sweet nectar of freedom! I'll take a few questions now. Mmm...yes, you there in the front."
"Mr. President! Mr. President! Now that we're in 2007, and everyone is talking about New Year's Resolutions, sir, do you have any resolutions of your own? Perhaps making 2007 the year we capture or kill Osama?"
"Hmmm...yes, Osama.... That name sounds familia....no, don't tell me.
"It's...we got this sayin' down in Texas, uh...it goes...'if you know the name, but can't think of it, just give it a minute - it'll come to you.' Heh. Yeah, that's it."
"Getting back to the question, though, Mr. President, sir, that now Saddam Hussein has been executed and the Iraqis now have closure on a terrible period in their history, as they begin to heal wounds and move forward on their own country, might we see an escalation in and around Afghanistan to track down Osama Bin Laden in an effort to perhaps...bring closure to our own national wounds, the tragic loss of life, the unanswered questions?
"Gee I didn't know it was so important to you. I mean, it's hard work! And I'm trying! Sheesh...you...you act like terrorists just hijacked some aircraft and flew them into our country!"
"Um, no Mr. President, that happened many years ago now and well, people have been wondering, ever since, when exactly we're going to kill or capture Osama Bin Laden, the man responsible for attacking us here and killing roughly 3000 people, which catapulted us into a 'War on Terror' which, by your lead, led us to Iraq where we toppled Saddam, who was just executed?"
"You're right. I want to...apol-o-gize if I've minunderterpreted your question. Won't happen again. See, it's a hard job, what our troops are doing over there in Iraq. And I respect them for their efforts. But make no doubt about it - freedom is on the march in Iraq! We've turned all the corners and now we're back at the beginning only, it's a new beginning."
"A new beginning without Saddam! Can you imagine what that's like for the Iraqi peoples? Look, I know it hasn't been easy going. It's been hard. And we've, uh...we've lost some fine good men. I understand that. But their loss has been so worth it. Just...SO worth it!"
"Let me just remind you that I haven't forgotten about Osama. I want justice," Bush said. "And there's an old poster out West... I recall, that said, 'Wanted, Dead or Alive.'"
Will 2007 be the year of Osama? I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we?
