It was 50 degrees today and foggy. On Jan 1. In Upstate NY.
It has been mild, in the 40s for all of December. What's not to like, my husband says. No snow to shovel. Low heating bills. We're sitting pretty!!!
I talked to my mom the other day who lives in Boston and she says we're gonna pay. Big time. Below!
I know that El Nino is a factor but why is Denver getting hammered and why are these storms petering out by the time they reach the East Coast?
Lord knows the east coast isn't topographically able to feed the US and certainly not the northeast US yet our climate over the past 2 years is mild and quite frankly plant friendly. I'm picking sage and parsely out of my front garden right now and also did so last January. What's up with that?
Is human activity the culprit? Is it all American activity or is Chinese activity a factor? What about India's emissions?
We need to do something but what? If the US were to cut it's emissions in half, if China or India don't cut theirs it won't matter, environmentally speaking.
Is Kyoto about the environment or is it about more? If emissions are the issue, why aren't China and India to be held to it's standards and sanctions?
Isn't it more about the US giving more to developing countries, in the case of Kyoto, by global force? I mean, we need to do something about global warming but without China or India coming on board the end result, environmentally, is really a moot point.
Hey, as a resident of upstate NY I'm not complaining. No shoveling, no snowblowing, no icy sidewalks. Our grass is starting to grow again and our tulips are poking up. But, it's just not right. Not right at all. And my mom is right, we're gonna pay. Big time.
Thoughts?
