We know about Vern Buchanan. But did you know about Jim McCrery and Tom Feeney?
USA Today reports that McCrery (R-LA) and Feeney (R-FL) are being challenged by their 2006 opponents.
McCrery's opponent Patti Cox is challenging McCrery on the basis that McCrery is not a Louisiana resident.
McCrery did actually sell his Shreveport residence and move to Virginia, but he has a defense ready.
"I was born in Shreveport, and have been a resident of Louisiana my entire life, except for three years in elementary school," McCrery said. "I own property in Caddo Parish and pay both property and income taxes in Louisiana. I vote in Louisiana, and have always kept a residence in Shreveport while serving in Congress."
No word on where his residence is according to his voter registration in Louisiana.
As for Tom Feeney..
USA Today doesn't actually report the reason for the Curtis challenge (after all, they wouldn't want to cram too much news into the USA Today, it takes space from fancy graphics). But Brad Blog has some info that is from the Orlando Sentinel.
Curtis down, but he's not out --- right?
Clint Curtis, who challenged Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Oviedo, in the general election, lost by nearly 28,000 votes. Or did he? Curtis, a Democrat whose campaign centered on questioning the integrity of the nation's vote-counting system, has filed formal notice of an election challenge with the U.S. House of Representatives.
Among the charges is that official voting results are "wrong, unreliable and not worthy of any election in this country." Why? Mishandling of election laws, malfunctioning voting machines and --- wait for it --- the likelihood that affidavits furnished by Curtis from voters who say they voted for him will add up to more than the totals reflected in the official record.
Whew! Stay tuned
I'm not expecting the Feeney challenge to go too far.
Although the McCrery challenge could be worth some more press if there's some breakthrough. Although the last Representative to lose his seat due to residence was a guy in 1825.
