It's become "conventional wisdom" that the Christians will rebel against a war on them. I wonder. Here's why:
Consider that many Christians are believers simply because they are conformists and avoiding trouble. Occam's razor of psychological homeostasis.
If they think being a Christian is controversial, will they just avoid it, like they avoid anything that might cause conflict?
Is it possible that secularism is the least conflict-causing modality of belief now and in the future of humanity.
There was a time when manners prescribed refraining from talk of sex, religion and politics. Could we attain that utopia again?
I hope so.
As our wise founders knew, church and state should be separate. Maybe the average churchgoer is going there just for the big church socialization. That isn't nearly as bad, to me, as going to become a soldier of the Lord.
Maybe the bigtime church leaders will catch on to the wave of liberalism and weathervane over to the nonconfrontational posture that a healthy society needs for its spiritual side.
What do you think? Hope for internalization and socialization of the religious demon in humans?
