I probably won't actually spend the entire day watching C-Span, but I'll admit that Democratic-majority control is still so fresh, that I'm having an entertaining morning here. I'll give some observations after the flip.
Firstly, it's really entertaining to watch our new members on the House floor. No matter how polished and articulate they've been on the campaign trail, it is obvious that they are nervous while giving their first speeches in congress. They are doing well, and they'll get more comfortable doing this as they go. At the moment, if you are not watching, they are debating pay-as-you-go rules for the House. Democrats have done well on this, with Spratt, Schuler, and Alcee Hastings making some good points about how fiscally undisciplined the Republicans have been over the past six years.
On a side note, could we please, for the love of GOD, do something about the persistent misuse of "Democrat" the noun as an adjective? I am remarkably fed up with every Republican speaker in this debate referring to their Democratic colleagues as "Democrat majority" and "Democrat leader." It is wrong, and I cannot for the life of me understand why we are allowing this. We certainly have people who are capable of correcting this when it happens.
