Remember when Rosalind Kurita was the 'Progressive' alternative to Harold Ford Jr? and how Kurita would have won last November? and all of that anti-Ford stuff? Rosalind doublecrossed her party today.
A last-minute switch by a Democratic senator from Clarksville allowed Wilder to be bested by his Republican rival, state Sen. Majority Leader Ron Ramsey.
(..)
Wilder had held the post since the early 1970s – but Ramsey defeated him after state Sen. Rosalind Kurita of Clarksville defected from her fellow Democrats and voted with the Republicans for Ramsey.
Well, well, well.
I guess turncoats eventually make themselves known, right?
But yes, John Wilder, Tennessee Lt. Governor for the last 36 years, is no longer Lt. Governor of Tennessee. Thanks to Republicans finally uniting, and partly due to one other turncoat.
And the Tennessee State Senate falls to the Republicans for the first time in 140 years.
I'm sure this is a bit more disappointing for actual Tennessee residents, but perhaps 17 loyal Democrats will be seated in 2008 to take back that chamber.
Bleeeeh.
