(h/t to dday on this--I saw his post on Calitics, and he got me interested in running the first place.)
Many of you saw and recommended my diary yesterday announcing my candidacy for delegate from my Assembly District to the California Democratic Party. The response you gave was humbling and overwhelming.
What you may not know is that your interest in local activism has really started something. That diary seemingly served as a flashpoint for the assembly of a whole ton of bloggers--at least 25!--who, like me, are running for one of the delegate positions from their local AD. In fact, our local California Soapblox, Calitics, has switched its focus to our AD elections, and our activities received frontpage mention on MyDD. But there are people who aren't so happy--like the L.A. Times.
Yes. You see, according to Robert salladay of the L.A. Times, people who normally run for AD Delegate positions are boring sociopaths with no lives. But this year is different. Why?
But this year, Democratic progressives are attempting to make inroads by beating out establishment types who are running. The progressives include a bunch of bloggers - lordy, help us - such as David Dayen from the Santa Monica area, who writes about the "first campaign speech of my life."
Yeah. God help us--the bloggers are coming! We all know how dangerous and out of touch they are! How bad they've been for the political process! Or something to that effect. Scary news, right? Well, not really--because it won't matter, if you ask Robert:
Don't expect a revolution or a leftward shift for the party. The establishment is too organized to let that happen.
Yeah. Because, you know, we bloggers were too disorganized to get anything done or influence the debate on a national level. So what makes you think we'd be able to get anything done here?
Well, there's only one way to stick it to Robert Salladay and the establishment: show up and vote for us.
You can find a list of bloggers who are running at the MyDD link above. If you live in California and you want to support a blogger, you can find what Assembly District you live in here (your state house number is your assembly district). And the caucuses are this weekend--you can find out the location of yours here.
Show them where they can stick their establishment. Help get us elected.
