In an online conversation I had on the matter of the recent firing of US attorneys by the Bush Administration, a Bush supporter had a very interesting point:

It has been highlighted in the previous two diaries (linked above) that J. Timothy Griffin has already been named as a replacement for one of these slots. His previous experience is in investigating Henry Cisneros and doing oppo research for the RNC.
Is Bush going on the offensive? One of the posts he will be filling is in the Speaker's district in San Francisco. One is from Harry Reid's home state of Nevada.
Is this really less about protecting his hide and more about trying to hamstring the Democratic Congress with vindictive investigations?
Or, more to the point, is it about tring to protect his hide by hamstringing the Congress?
Thoughts?
