This was covered in the diary by litigatormom in the diary UPDATED-Today's Bush & Snowjob Translation: SOTU Preview Edition, but I think what Helen Thomas did today with being brave enough to call out BushCo with their lies about our permanent military bases and our Vatican City sized embassy in Iraq deserves some more attention. Tony SnowJob was brazen enough to sit there and lie to the public and say that he didn’t know about these bases, and our embassy in Iraq. If having those bases there and that embassy there isn’t contributing to the violence in Iraq, and the Iraqi people knowing that this is not a war, but an occupation, I don’t know what is. If you were an Iraqi, what would you think of this being built in plain view of Baghdad? I would think it means they know we’re never going to leave.

I give Helen credit for once again being the only person in the White House Press Corps showing that she hasn’t had her spine surgically removed. If anyone would like to watch her calling Tony Snow out, and how dismissive he was to her, and his lying in action about how he supposedly knows nothing about this embassy, go to C-SPAN’s video of the briefing posted on their home page at http://www.c-span.org/ and it’s at the 10:30 minute mark if you can’t stand to watch the rest of it. You’ll need Real Player to watch it. For an entire transcript of the briefing, it’s posted on the White House’s web site at: Press Briefing by Tony Snow.
We’ve got our troops over there as cannon fodder so that we can steal that oil for American and British multi-national oil companies. We’re obviously not planning on going anywhere and time soon. I would hope that everyone here makes sure that the picture I posted here makes it into as many homes as possible when talking about this war, and how it’s going, and why we’re losing, and why it’s not war, but an occupation. We need more who are brave like Helen in the press calling these guys out, and not one of these lap dogs asked a follow up question to the one Helen raised today. All of us need to make sure that they don’t get away with these lies, and that we make sure as many people in this country see the picture of the embassy they’d rather pretend doesn’t exist
I truly do not think the tax payers of this country, and those who want us out of this war would be too thrilled by this image, and it's one that belonged on the front pages of every newspaper of the country. Not one where Tony Snow didn't mind lying about its existence since there will be no repercussion from that lie in the form of public outrage since the press has not done their jobs. The fact that he was brazen enough to say what he did today just blows me away. My question is, what are we going to do about it?
