Thoughts, and Then, the News
Memo to the Beltway Media: McCain is not a saint. He’s not consistent. He isn’t anything he’d like you to believe he is. He does NOT ride the Straight Talk Express; it derailed a long time ago. It’s simply intellectually lazy for anyone in the media to continue to stick with their fantasy storyline that McCain is a consistent, straight talker. He’s not. He’s as calculating as some of the most calculating politicians; he’s just better at hiding it. Your job is to uncover the truth, not participate in turning a blind eye to it. (And end rant.)
Now for the news:
David Broder... Dean of the Washington Press Corps... needs a factchecker
since he doesn’t realize that there’s a LONG list of Democrats who have served or who have family members who have served. He apparently forgot that the majority of Iraq war veterans who ran for Congress in 2006 ran as Democrats. So to say that the DNC winter meeting crowd doesn’t have much experience or sympathy for the military is just a bold face LIE.
Is The Daily Show journalism?
Journalism professor Venise Wagner says no, because TDS doesn’t do its own reporting. I disagree, because a key function of journalism is fact checking and speaking truth to power. There are certainly times that TDS does a better job than the MSM. Remember the time The Nightly News showed a clip of TDS catching Bush using the same language to describe two of his appointees? I think it was Bob Gates and Donald Rumsfeld.
Um, I think bloggers could give you a better variety of stories...
Candy Crowley of CNN:
And then you try to pick up a little news. You make as many phone calls as you can in the morning to pick up what’s out there and generate a little news.

Newsie’s Media News Report is a compilation of recent media news; it was formerly known as Media News Monday. If you have any media news to add, please do so. I don’t often post Media Matters stuff, because almost everyone already either links to or visits that site. Same with Greg Sargent’s The Horse’s Mouth at Talking Points Memo. For more RWCM watch & Media News: Penndit's News, Media News, and RWCM Watch Links. I get the advertising, public relations, targeting voters information, and media research from a variety of sources. Cross-posted at Penndit. For previous editions, search my diaries or Penndit.
