Yeee-Haaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Democrat Craig Johnson has beaten Republican Maureen O'Connell in the highly-funded, high-profile race for state Senate.
With 95.45 percent of the unofficial results tallied, Johnson led with 24,666 votes to O'Connell's 22,345.
Congratulations to the folks at The Albany Project, along with the rest of the New York State blogging community, which went all out for this one, including putting together a $100,000 "blograiser" last week.
And congratulations to Eliot Spitzer, the Steamroller, who went all out for this election, breaking tradition by campaigning for a lowly State Senate race.
With this victory, the Dems are only behind by two seats in the New York State Senate. Many prognosticators think that Spitzer will get two Republicans to switch parties, which will give Dems full 100% control over the State government, and will allow Spitzer's reform agenda to steamroll over the staid geriatric Albany machine.
Update [2007-2-6 23:3:31 by pontificator]: One thing to realize now is, New York is a State that "gets" the netroots. Spitzer appointed this guy Dave Pollak as co-chair of the NY Democratic party. Pollak made the blograiser happen, and got Spitzer to show up. And now, just moments after the win, Pollack has already acknowledged our impact. His message, just moments ago, to the netroots:
"thank you, thank you, thank you. this couldn't have happened without you. this is only the beginning. we are only scratching the surface. thank you, thank you, thank you."
