Shakespear's Sister -- "Edward's Bloggers Cross the Line"
Oh I will give you a line to cross! Maybe you will learn something when you walk over it?!
When did the Puritan nightmare that is our country decide that the mere use of so-called vulgar language was in and of itself an indictable offense? As if any human being is so pure as to not use any of those words! They are just words after all, and more to the point, this is an exceptional example of the hypocrisy of the right.
Language, profane or otherwise is not central to the relevant issues challenging America in this day and age. Words do sit squarely in the middle of our representative government, and the protection of all oral expression is central to what it means to be an American.
And I have a question?
Would the Catholics that stood up and said "Fucking Kill Osama" or anything of the sort after 9/11 please stand up? No one is so pure, or so honest as to claim to have never used a profane or vulgar epitaph. Those words are emotionally charged, and used to express extreme emotions. Often they are appropriate, and mostly spot on for the situation. If George Bush hadn't captured Saddam, how many of you would have been satisfied to hear the "decider" simply say "Darn it."
Get over yourselves, and hang your hats on the real issues here! This is not about electing a Catholic, and any Catholic that sees that as the goal should be forced to go back to high school civics and learn about the separation of church and state. Sure, faith is a good thing, but who is to say which brand of faith is better than the other? That is why we have separation of church and state...Because the founders, having come from states of religious persecution, knew the best way to deal with God was to let everyone have their own private relationship with Him. To demand others bend to your faith and the doctrine (imagined, created, or rumored) is to declare yourself an enemy of the state. America is about freedom...Of speech, religion, and from prosecution for either.
So to the Catholic League, with all due respect, I kindly ask that you respect the Constitution of the United State of America, and shut up! Why not focus your energy on the causes of poverty and how one candidate may or may not help those less fortunate than yourself.
Practice what you preach, and leave the judgements to God. Melissa McEwan & Amanda Marcotte aren't what's wrong with America, they are living, breathing, and writing proof of what is RIGHT with America. Mr Donohue and his Catholic League are what is wrong with this nation. Nothing can be more un-American than trying to suppress speech and the freedom of expression in a Presidential campaign; for this perhaps these critics should move to Iraq -- A place where religious persecution is part of the daily business of the land. We'll see what words you pious jerks use over there?!
Let's instead focus on the real issues confronting America, not the ones you are making up for your own petty reasons.
