I don't know how this got by me!  Yesterday marked the paper Anniversary of Dick and Harry's amazing hunting trip.  This, at about the same time that Gene Pitney, who had the hit single "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (written by Burt Baccarach) died.

That, of course, inspired me to take a few liberties of my own, and here's the way I sing that song now:

The Man Shot By Richard B. Cheney
When Richard B. Cheney rode to town,
The elderly would hide  (They’d hide).
When Richard B. Cheney walked around
The hunters jumped aside!
Cause the point of a gun was the only law
That Richard B. Understood...
When it came to being a straight shooter,
He was not that good.

From the RNC a donor came,
A checkbook in his hand (a rich man).
A lawyer man that he might need to drill and pillage land.
Cause the point of a gun was the only law
That Richard B. Understood...
When it Came to being a straight shooter,
He was not that good.

Many young men he’d send to war,
And many young men would fall-
The Man Shot By Richard B.  Cheney,
Shot By Richard B. Cheney,
He was the oldest of them all!

The fear of danger can make a man defer,
Turn tail and run  (he ran)
Had better things to do
Like trample the rights of his fellow man.
Cause the point of a gun was the only law
That Richard B. Understood!
When it came to being a straight Shooter...
He was not that good!

At lunch the bunch ate bon-bons and had
Well, let’s say one beer (just one beer)
While caged birds were being released
In a bloody ditch most near.
Cause the point of a gun was the only law
That Richard B. Understood...
When that big canned quail hunt came at last
A  checkbook did no good.
From the moment that donor writes his check
The very first thing he learns
Is the birds win when two come hunting them
And only one returns!

Everybody heard the shot ring out
The Shot made the old man fall.
The man shot by Richard B. Cheney
Shot By Richard B Cheney....
He was the oldest of them all!

you can sing along here

There must be a zillion other approriate ways of memorializing this historic occasion.  Hope you'll add yours!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
