Well, it's 2002 all over again.
On the political forum of a bowhunting website I frequent, the accusations of Iran providing weapons to Iraqi insurgents have been flying thick and fast.
Today, they were joined by a post detailing how EASY it would be to bring Iran to its knees. All we'd have to do, it said, was bomb 9 refineries, and they'd have no gas and their economy would collapse.
This was met with the obligatory "Why aren't we doing that NOW?" remarks.
I was almost overcome by deja vu.
You'd think that after being completely wrong about every single thing related to the Iraq war, that these guys would have SOME sense of shame. You'd think that, but you'd be wrong.
The problem isn't that the Iraq war was a bad idea, or that the reasons we gave for it were crap, or that we did a piss-poor job continuously for almost 4 years of trying to remake a country with no democratic tradition and deep sectarian divisions into a Mini-Me. No, the problem is that we didn't piss off ENOUGH Muslims, and we need to piss off a whole 'nother country full of them.
Those who revise history are condemned to repeat it, apparently. And we're condemned to ride along.
Shitheads.
