It had to happen.
The best defense, and the best offense, for the truth in its epic battle with the GOP Evildoers has been the consistent findings of public opinion polls, even the pushy FoxNews polls, that a solid majority of the American public oppose the proposed escalation of the war in Iraq, and that a solid majority of the American public want Congress to vote to defund the war.
The warmongers, the profiteers, the neocons, the Saudis- the evil cabal have been pissing into the wind lately- no strategy of theirs, however cunning, could gain much traction against this reality.
So, imagine my shock to pass the newsstands today and see the Post's blaring headline that a new poll showed a majority of Americans supporting the escalation and renouncing a withdrawl.
I should first note I see the conspiracy against our constitution as broad and deep. I was convinced I would have to work hard this morning to discover the fatal flaw here- I presumed the poll was a neocon hack using a cloak with some credibility.
I went online and read the story. The poll was conducted not by Gallup, WaPo, Fox or any of the "usual suspects" for a push job cloaked with a credible veneer. No, it was done by an outfit called "Public Opinion Strategies."
I continued to presume I had a tough morning in front of me. I googled the firm, and came up with:
Public Opinion Strategies
a national Republican political and public affairs research firm with its roots in political campaigns, its research is focused on producing information ...

So, I was wrong. This was quick work. I had a couple of surplus minutes, so I went back and re-read the Post's story. No mention whatsoever was made that this POS poll (their chosen acronym- my rimshot) was partisan Republican.
None.
The Post had plenty of space to add the phrase "GOP polling firm" describing POS. Instead, the Post chose to deceive its readers. On the front page, not the editorial page.
And, of course, the kicker, as noted by Munky below: If you wade thru the poll, the question most closely aligned with the headline, one regarding support for US troops remaining in Iraq until order is restored, the precise goal of the "surge," the level of support in the poll is 27%.
27%.
I can't make this up. Any of it. Politicalrecluse has the guts of the poll below.
Howie Kurtz will have no problem with this, of course.
(PS: To understand how willful the Post is, pls read this comment noted by KagroX below.)
