What is the deal with AllState? And why would anyone in their right mind still do business with them?
The pattern of bad behavior that has plagued Mississippi has jumped the border...
The news out of New Orleans this morning is that AllState has begun dropping homeowners policies under a rule that allows cancellations if storm damage hasn't been repaired.
The kicker? More than a few- to date, maybe 100 more than a few -of the properties in question either recieved no storm damage, or were fully repaired months ago.
It should be noted that of the all the major insurers in Louisiana, AllState is the only one pursuing this aggressively; Not Farmer's, not USAA, not Louisiana Farm Bureau, not Liberty Mutual, not even State Farm, the current eminence gris of Mississippi.
What you can do
- IF you've gotten a notice, contact the Louisiana Department of Insurance
- Dump your policies with AllState. No need to subsidize this crap.
- Ask your representatives to support The Insurance Industry Competition Act of 2007, which seeks to remove the industry's exemptions from anti-trust laws.
- Tune in Feb 28th for more evidence of the insurance industry's bad behavior during the webcast of the House subcommittee oversight hearing on Katrina claims.
