In this issue of The New Yorker, posted 02-25-2007, is an article by Seymour Hersh that must be read by everyone. It's 5 pages long so, if that's a bit much, you can hear an interview with him on NPR's Fresh Air, 02-27-2007, with Terri Gross.
The New Yorker, or Fresh Air, are reporting a new strategy that puts us in league with...wait for this...Al Queda! Yes. The very same Al-Queda Shrub swore to kill, along with any country that supports them (except Pakistan). The new strategy is primarily the brainchild of...you guessed it...Dick Chains-Eh! Basically, he believes that Iran is developing a bomb. They will give it to Hezbollah who will, then, use it within the United States. To address this massive threat we are supplying money, without Congressional approval or knowledge, to a wing of Lebanon that is supportive of a radical Sunni organization that is happy to kill anyone not on their side. This organization is closely tied to Al-Queda. Yep. That means that we are indirectly funding Al-Queda friendly killers. The reason for doing this is to foment Sunni rebellion against the Shiite's which would, so the idea goes, place Iranian interests in a bad corner.
To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.
States Hersh.
It's Iran/Contra all over again, and being put into operation by many of the same people, or their relatives, who brought us the actual Iran/Contra (Where's Oliver?). But worse than that, we are now funding a group that attacked us on 9/11. My only question is, when will Shrub attack us?
I don't know how to link a diary without losing this one but we had a debate about not being able to attack Iran from the Strait of Hormuz. The diarist stated that we should only worry if the carrier group headed out into Gulf Of Oman, or Arabian Sea. Hersh states that 2 more carrier groups will be stationed, by Spring, in the area. 1 in the Gulf and 1 in the Arabian Sea. Hundreds of planes, and missiles, will be with them and it will only be an air attack. The Army, Navy and Marines are against the plan (the Navy being very worried about suicide ships causing massive losses) but the Air Force, of course, is all for it. They want in, boys. Can't let the National Guard, and Army, have all the fun.
Read this, or listen to the interview, or both. Serious action must be taken to stop our lunatic Administration. This isn't funny, anymore!!!
