In this edition: LA Times reporters nominate selves for Pulitzer; shield laws debate; FNC’s really thin skin; has journalism lost its guts?; evening news last to the US Atty politicization scandal; State of the Media 2007 Report; newspaper ad wars; sometimes you wonder if the MSM factchecks; kudos for TPM; covering Iraq is a tough job but somebody’s got to do it; NPR turns 40; the media & the military; ratings; and so much more...
Thoughts, and Then, the News
D.C. media comes across awfully incestuous when you think about it.
Now for the news:
Pew’s State of the Media 2007 Report
It’s out. LA Times’ take: Media’s focus narrowing, report warns. On PBS MediaShift: "You have more people covering the top stories and fewer people covering the stories that are now going uncovered"... well, see, this is where blogs come in, no?
In Their League
FDL’s coverage of Libby trial. MSM should get with the program and realize that they can’t just pooh-pooh everything that comes from the blogs. It is entirely possibly that blogs like FDL and TPM do as good or better work than the MSM.
Newspaper Ad Wars
Both sides do it. This time, Sens. Graham & DeMint (R-SC) take out newspaper ads supporting the Iraq war
Just some serious jackass-ery
Two LA Times Pulitzer Finalists Nominated Themselves OY.
Oh, Andrea. You’re Much Smarter Than This
Re-read the numbers on a Libby pardon, please.

Libby verdict & fallout lead news. The right topic lead, for once.
FNC v. John Edwards
Fox is being a baby about the whole NV debate cancellation, but Ailes pointing out that Edwards had no problem going on Fox over 30 times since 2000 is probably the only one that actually has any shot at hurting Edwards.
What Liberal Media?

Media People & In the Field
After 10 months on the sidelines, CBS News correspondent Kimberly Dozier is almost ready to go back to work. "I'm back to normal, pretty much," said Dozier, who suffered a head wound and leg fractures in May when a car bomb exploded on a Baghdad street. Her cameraman and sound man were killed, and Dozier's recovery included more than a dozen surgeries ("I lost count") in Germany, at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda and at the University of Maryland's Kernan Hospital in Baltimore -- the last one just three weeks ago, to replace her right eardrum.

Newsie’s Media News Report is a compilation of recent media news; it was formerly known as Media News Monday. If you have any media news to add, please do so. I don’t often post Media Matters stuff, because almost everyone already either links to or visits that site. Same with Greg Sargent’s The Horse’s Mouth at Talking Points Memo. I’ll post only if I’ve got something to add. For more RWCM watch & Media News: Penndit's News, Media News, and RWCM Watch Links. I get the advertising, public relations, targeting voters information, and media research from a variety of sources. Cross-posted at Penndit. For previous editions, search my diaries or Penndit.
