According to an article on RawStory.com today, former Tennessee Republican senator Fred Thompson, who is considering a run for the Presidency, said," 'Mahatma Gandhi's 'way isn't the American way.' "
Raw Story a bit later:
Thompson adds, "Besides coolers and mattresses, protesters have brought along a giant paper mache statue of Mahatma Gandhi, who is pretty much the symbol of the anti-war movement. Code Pink was founded on his birthday, and when Saddam Hussein was being given a last chance to open Iraq to U.N. weapons inspectors, posters appeared around America asking 'What would Gandhi do?'"
But former senator Thompson, do you not remember that Bush had to pull weapons inspectors out of Iraq in order to start the bombing? We did not bomb them because they would not let the inspectors in. Rather, the weapons inspectors were already in Iraq, and they were saying Iraq did not have any WMD's, but Bush pulled them out anyway so he could start bombing. Don't you know this?
Odds are he is perfectly aware of this, just as odds are Bush was perfectly aware when he has made the same lie in the past that we bombed Iraq because they would not let the inspectors in. This is one more Republican Talking Point--lie number three gazillion and one.
In addition, in the extremely unlikely chance that he did not know this, this would mean that he is completely ignorant on the subject he is addressing. So which is it, former senator Thompson? Are you a Liar or an Ignoramus? Take a few days and think about it, and while we wait forever for the answer, we can make a mental note to bring this up again and again as you try to test the waters for a Presidential run. From this, we already know what to expect from you: the same Republican Talking Point lies that Bush gave.
We wait for your possible announcement to run with baited breath. :)
