"I keep hearing that the goal is to elect a Democrat in 2008. But my goal is to elect a candidate worth my vote. And I’m more than a little disgusted with what I have seen from the Democrats recently.
That is, with the exception of Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, who recently said: "Since war with Iran is an option of this Administration, and since such war is patently illegal, then impeachment may well be the only remedy which remains to stop a war of aggression against Iran." (Source)
By lucky coincidence, today I hung out with Elizabeth Kucinich, Dennis’ remarkable wife. Elizabeth has been repeatedly introduced as ‘representing Dennis Kucinich,’ but ten seconds with this timeless woman and you realize that she actually represents peace and wisdom. Fortunately, so does her husband."
My interpretation of this email, which I got today, is that there is a large and growing very angry segment of Democratic voters who are not buying the excuses that Democrats would lose votes in 2008 if they were (whiny tone) seen to be "not supporting the troops" if they forced Bush to pull them out by the simple constitutional expedient of cutting off the funds to keep them there. (/whiny tone)
I agree. I think Democratic (and Republican) legislators should carefully reconsider the mood of the betrayed voter. I think that when they get in that voting booth, they are going to do a gut check and vote for the candidate that showed the most defiance of the Noise Machine.
I think voters are tired of being thought brainless idiot about how to get the troops home. Maybe I'm wrong, but this DLC style thinking ain't what got Webb and Tester elected. It is defeatism, it's accepting the Noise Machine frame, and I think the average voter is becoming aware of the political manipulation schemes of the TV news.
I see it in the desperation of O'Reilly (yes, I watch him, like any enemy must be watched, the screaming popularity of Jon Stewart when a radical Democrat comes out from the wings, from the snickers and snorts when some Republican bites the dust in an attempt to outmaneuver Colbert.
It's getting harder and harder to fool the voters. And I think the polls are way behind this change. Hillary is thinking the wrong way, and so is McCain. We need to follow the brave ones into battle. I think the people are already with us!
