I apologize for the short diary, but my idea is simple.
If the Democrats just get in front of TV cameras and say this over and over again -- they will beat Bush down in no time:
Senator Reid: "We fundamentally disagreee with the President. He thinks that hardworking, honest Republicans like David Iglesias should lose their jobs for no good reason. He thinks that office politics should be more important than hard work. We disagree. This is a Bipartisan Cause. It's about standing up for honest, hard work over lazy incompetence. And we are proud today to stand with all Republicans who have served their country with such distinction and integrity over these past six years."
In other words, it should be emphasized that the Democratic Leadership is defending HARD WORKING, HONEST REPUBLICANS from a LAZY and INCOMPETENT administration. It's a golden opportunity to solidify the Democratic Majority.
This will definitely resonate with the middle class office worker. Everybody knows that office politics is rotten and everyone knows what it's like to be victimized in this way. Everyone -- especially white collar Republicans -- will immediately identify with Senator Reid.
Then, I'd like to see the Senator go one step further. Why not follow up with this statement:
Senator Reid: "There are probably a lot of you out there today who are feeling like Ronald Reagan back in the 1960s. You remember that President Reagan said that "He never left the Democratic Party -- The Party left him." Well, I bet there are a lot of our Republican friends out there tonight who see the actions of this Lazy and Incompetent adminstration and think: "What happened to my party?" Well, I'm here to say that you have not lost your home. In fact, we've been expecting you. Come on in. We've got dinner on the table and an apple pie in the oven. Welcome to the Democratic Party."
Okay, he can change the last part -- but you get the idea. Build the Democratic Supermajority
