Here we go again. The GOP is recycling old talking points. Remember Britt Hume saying Iraq was safer than the state of California or Ann Coulter comparing sectarian violence in Baghdad to the gang war between bloods and crips in LA. Or how about the folks over at Wizbang saying that murder rate is higher in Philadephia than in Iraq. Well now we have Congressman Tim Walberg saying that Iraq is as "under control" as Detroit or Chicago. At least freaking get some new material for crying out loud.
During an interview Monday with WILS-AM, Rep. Tim Walberg (news, bio, voting record) said the returning troops he has talked with "indicate to me that 80 to 85 percent, in a conservative fashion, of the country is reasonably under control, at least as well as Detroit or Chicago or any of our other big cities. That's an encouraging sign."
Remarked program host Jack Ebling: "I've never heard Iraq compared to Detroit before."
Walberg responded: "Well, in fact, in many places it's as safe and cared for as Detroit or Harvey, Ill., or some other places that have trouble with armed violence that takes place on occasion."
Congressman Walberg, do they have death squads roaming the streets of Detroit pulling people from their homes and murdering them? I seem to have missed the news reports about roadside bombs and mortar fire wreaking havoc in the streets of Chicago. It's funny they don't refer to mayor's office in downtown Philadelphia as the "Green Zone". When I leave home and take the subway into Manhattan, I don't tell my wife I'm going "outside the wire". Nice try Congressman but the American people aren't buying this horseshit anymore.
