I fully expect that we will take back two branches of government in 2008.* What are we going to do then?
Among the first orders of business will be to clean up the nasty things the Republicans (and some Democrats) have done in the last 13 years in Congress.
To that end, I'd really appreciate your input here. I'm trying to pick out some examples of where powerful interests have warped the government to the disadvantage of normal people. Here are some examples of things to fix:
Trustbusting
- Revoke the Gramm and whomever bill that allowed financial service conglomerate,
- Re-establish media concentration rules, especially those that pertain to foreign ownership of domestic media,
- Break up the regulated monopolies,
- Break up the para-governmental organizations such as Halliburton.
Financial Security
- Fix the bankruptcy laws,
- Re-establish usury laws, that is, limit the interest rates that credit cards can charge.
The ultimate To-Do list will run for pages. Let's focus in this stage on listing the different projects and sort through them later. I expect the civil rights legislation to get worked over pretty well.
Thanks everyone!
- We've got a lot of work to do before we get there. Let's think of this as creative visualization rather than chicken counting.
