Wow. How the mighty (well scripted) has fallen. I just had the misfortune of seeing Dennis Miller on The Daily Show. His idea of clever humor has degenerated into attacking Nancy Pelosi's looks. How often she blinks. How old Robert Byrd is. Jokes about Al Gore and the environment (while implying it's all a lie). And how wonderful the wingnut bastards are. He really is the lowest. At first I was upset that Stewart didn't make him put up or shut up, but then I realized that Stewart (unlike Miller) finds no sport in one-sided fights.
Remember the good old days when Miller used great allusions to literature to skewer anyone in power? Remember how he tried to sell himself as the last of the erudite beatnik hippies? His quasi-mullet and blue blazer with jeans harkened backed to the mid 70's and his staccato delivery was the height of hip.
Now he's an apologist for the right; a lap dog for the powers that be. He decided it was safer - and more profitable - to toe the line after 9/11. Instead of standing up like a man by standing up to the man, he wet himself worrying that his snark would put him on "The List," and so he joined the attack on three "Chicks" who were each more of a man than Miller ever was.
He lost his cable show. He lost his MNF gig. He lost his CNBC show (how do you lose a CNBC show?!) He lost his ability to publish his snark. He's trying to appear relevant by doing a Lewis Black imitation for Bill O'Reilly and sucking up to Hannity. Now he's prostituting what's left of his fame for the wingnuts on a rightwing radio show, where the guest is either an old SNL alum or someone from the Fox News guest of the day list.
I didn't think there could be anyone worse, but Miller is officially now a step below Adam Carolla.
