More and more often and more and more vocally, people are wondering why U.S. citizens are so passive in the face of Bushco's outrageous behavior. I think it's because we all still assume that in a world run by gangs, ours is still the toughest -- no matter how much we may disapprove of its leaders' behavior.
This assumption is nurtured every time Bushco tortures, lies, illegally wiretaps etc. It is nurtured by the undying suspicion that the WTC on 9/11 fell in a manner indicating they were mined ahead of time. If the FBI and CIA and whomever else can infiltrate every organization, can control every event, then no matter how oppressively they operate the bottom line for most of us, unconsciously perhaps, is that they can also keep us relatively safe if we allow them full rein. If this involves their creating a police state, so long as we are the protected rather than the trashed piss ants, its okay with us.
