Can anyone out there help me? I have a question.
I think I heard something about there being some problems at Walter Reed Army Hospital - didn't I see something somewhere about our wounded veterans not quite getting the care they deserve?
Actually, I must be imagining that right. Perhaps I'm suffering from pajama-induced, ranting-from-my-basement blogger flashbacks. Because if there was any question about the care our veterans are receiving, and when the Senate is debating a supplemental bill to spend $122,000,000,000 - that's $122 BILLION on war, I'm sure that they would add, maybe $100 million to help our veterans right?
Wrong.
Because Republican Senators are willing to spend BILLIONS on war but they won't vote to spend a penny on helping our wounded. Hmm. Maybe the B in billion is for bastards because that's what they are.
Bastards. Cold-hearted, evil bastards - every single one of them.
Senators Obama and McCaskill tried to add an amendment to the spending bill, $103 million to the $122 billion bill. Frigging pennies for the vets.
Seriously, if you have $1,000 dollars, I'm talking about giving a penny to veteran.
Here's the first line of the press release from Senator Obama's office yesterday:
WASHINGTON, DC - A proposal to improve medical treatment for wounded soldiers introduced by Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) was today rejected by Senate Republicans, following weeks of public outrage over the state of care for U.S. servicemembers at military hospitals. The amendment, which would have provided $103 million in funding for additional caseworkers and mental health counselors, a women's mental health treatment program, and a comprehensive mental health study of returning soldiers, was based on the Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act the Senators introduced in February.
Bastards.
We need to keep fighting for our veterans. Bobby Muller from Veterans For America has written about this extensively. We owe them more than they gave us. Simple as that.
And we need to spread the word, from sea to shining sea, Republican Senators and any Democrat who votes for war, but doesn't vote to care for veterans, you do not represent us. And you will lose your next election.
We won't let the bastards get us down. But we will make damm sure they never win another election.
Oh, and make sure you check out President Bush's press conference at Walter Reed today. That ought to be special.
Bastards, one and all.
