NEW YORK -- Time magazine announced today (April 1) that its editors have selected Jesus of Nazareth as Man of the Year, 2007.
"This was really a no-brainer," said Time's religious editor David Van Biema. "Jesus is clearly the most important person of all time. In fact, we are going to name him man of the year in 2008, as well, praise the Lord."
Van Biema was not concerned that Time readers who aren't Christians would be put off by the decision.
"Look, what do they know? At least now they are talking about it," he said. "Maybe they will read the Word of God some day and figure out how wrong they are and then bask in the love of Jesus. And if not, they can fry in hell for eternity, thank the Lord."
Time's naming of Jesus as man of the year for 2007 -- and in advance for 2008 -- is part of the media giant's strategy to reach out to non-Christians and guide them to the light of truth.
"In future issues, we plan to look at the Virgin Mary," Van Vieta noted. "Why was she a virgin? Is God trying to tell us something here? Stay tuned, Time will give you the answers."
