Okay, I got me a rant on. Usually I try to look for the best, benefit of the doubt, and all like that, but this is ridiculous.
Remember when Harry Reid got hammered over boxing tickets? Boy did the Republics make a stink out of that one. But IOKIYAR - Condi got offered baseball tickets (great seats too!) and she said she'd be happy to go. This in a public interview no less.
And it was Sean Hannity of all people who offered her the tickets! Do these people have no shame? Or at least, do they have a clue? Half a clue? Anything?
More rant after the break. And hope for what's to come, because I'm a hopeful kind of guy and if you can't have hope you might as well curl up and roll over. And I am not about to do that, thank you very much.
Condi, Condi, Condi... Okay, let's be fair (which is more than they are to us), she hasn't gone to the game yet. But still. She's the Secretary of State, fer chrissakes. In a public interview, shouldn't our numba-one diplomat be diplomatic enough to think about appearances, and stay away from even the scent of this? Sheesh.
What's with these people? Do none of them have any principles? Is everything about scoring points? Sigh. Yes, and Yes, I know. Simple answers to simple questions. But are they really so clueless that they don't mind letting this become so clear?
Maybe it's me. I'd love to believe that somewhere there are politicians who still believe it's about service to country. No, make that service to people. Because it's not about the country, is it, it's about the people who live here, and how their lives can be made better. Isn't it?
Any cop will tell you that the way crooks always get caught is by being stupid. Arrogant, uncautious, sloppy. Slipping up. Thieves who get away with it are either smart and careful, or lucky.
So far these guys have been lucky. They snuck in their Iraq reorg plan under the guise of 9/11, which they got handed to them on a platter. They dodged more than a few bullets thanks to the Republican control of Congress. And they terrified the country for five years running and for the most part got away with it, doing their damndest to shut down anyone or anything around which any alternative mindset might coalesce. (Kept it up with a global war on the war on terror? Hmmm, is there a meme there?)
But I hope to god it isn't my wishful thinking that over the last few months I'm starting to smell a change in the air. Our grand slam last November, Dubya tanking in the polls, Fitz winning one for the home team (meaning, the country, not just the Democrats), and of course Abugate. Tell me I'm not imagining this!
