So our son says tonight, while being put to bed, "why can't the baby sleep at [the neighbor's] house?"
"Because she's our daughter, your sister."
A second pause, then "I want another baby."
"Why?"
"Because I'll like the other baby better."
No one ever said a new baby was easy on the older child...
I am now on paternity leave, and plan to focus on my family for the next two months. I like to say that I'm "taking the time off", but fact is I'm just dramatically scaling back work. Rather than put 16 hour days, I'll be limiting my work to no more than 2 hours daily (and that includes work on SportsBlogs and the projects I'll be launching further down the road). I was an absent father during my son's first two years (researching my book, then writing it) and I don't plan on repeating that mistake. As you can see above, we have a toddler who is feeling threatened. So I plan on showering him with as much attention as possible for what, to him, must be a hellish transition.
While I won't disappear completely, I won't be around much. And quite frankly, I'm looking forward to this. We're gearing up for an intense election cycle, and I plan on using this time to recharge the batteries for the battle ahead.
As for the site, it'll be in great hands.
