In a front page article yesterday ( GOP concern trolls too stupid to stay on message) Kagro X told us that the Republican "leadership" had written to Speaker Pelosi admonishing her for putting the troops at risk by not assigning conferees to finish the work on emergency funding for the WTM.
Well my two Senators are part of those mentioned as signing the letter. I have something else they can do to get this measure moving and making those vital funds available for our troups.
Last night I e-mailed Kay Bailey-Hutchison and John Cornyn reminding them that President Bush has a role to play as well (they so often forget that he does stuff). I asked that a similar letter be sent to President Bush. Here is my mark-up of the letter sent to Speaker Pelosi that I want them to send to the President.
Dear President Bush:
We are writing to urge you to sign the emergency legislation to fund the Global War on Terrorism [sic: I didn't want to change this since it could be like a secret handshake thing]. This funding will have been passed by Congress faster than any emergency legislation under the Republican led Congress. Your veto of this important and critical legislation will put our troops at risk.
We are especially troubled by your threats and critisms of Congress concerning this legislation. The Senate appointed conferees on March 29, moments after passing its bill, the House will follow suit as soon as the leadership gets back from a visit to Syria. (As you know your State Department has ignored the Iraq Study Group's recommendation to vist Syria and others in the area, so Speaker Pelosi and a bipartisan group have lent a hand.) Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told the Senate that he hoped the progress represented by this bipartisan legislation will be signed into law as soon as possible. That hoped-for progress will be thwarted by your veto.
Please Mr. President support the troops. Sign this important legislation.
Write or e-mail your Republican lap-dog and get them busy licking the lead and pencilling a similar missive to our Dear Leader.
