....about DC voting rights.
Now, I'm a citizen of DC, and most of you here are aware of the fact that the District does not have full voting representation in Congress. If you've been following this saga lately, you know that DC Vote, the District Government, and many many other organizations are organizing a march on the Capitol on Monday, April 16th (Emancipation Day) to demand voting rights for the citizens of the District.
Mark Plotkin, a local political reporter for WTOP news does weekly chats on the Washington Post's website, and in the course of his Tuesday (April 10th) chat, he revealed a real doozy.
DC's Mayor, Adrian Fenty, apparently went to speak with Josh Bolten about voting rights for the District, looking to lobby President Bush for support. Bolten told Fenty "that he is never to raise the subject of DC voting rights with the President in any future conversation" (see this link and search down the page until you find "Josh" to read the segment about this little conversation).
Now, I don't know about you, but, as Mr. Plotkin, DCist, and I'm sure others will tell you, Josh Bolten has no standing whatsoever to tell the Mayor of DC what he can and cannot say to anyone.
The arrogance of this administration towards those of us who live in this federal colony is appalling, immoral, and now, just downright arrogant.
Please come out and join your fellow American citizens who have NO REPRESENTATION, even though they pay taxes, sit on juries, fight in wars, and LOVE THEIR COUNTRY as much as anyone who lives in the fifty states. March with us if you're anywhere near DC on April 16th.
Meet at 14th and Pennsylvania NW (Freedom Plaza) at 2:30 PM, and help us right a historic wrong.
