(hat tip to Media Matters)
I can't determine whether Couric's vileness exceeds her vapidity, but in a sane world either would disqualify her from shaping public opinion.
Certainly, if Don Imus got fired, she should be blackballed.
Last night on her 'notebook' segment, she dipped into the Fox/Moonie Times jar to engage in a two-fer of Islamaphobia and sliming a Democrat.
The rancid details below the fold.
Ms. Deep Thoughts begins with bullshit right away:
COURIC: Hi, everyone. Is America ready to elect a president who grew up praying in a mosque?
GROAN.
Barack Obama has arguably the most diverse religious background of any candidate ever. He was raised in Indonesia by a Christian mother and Muslim stepfather and attended a Catholic school -- but while growing up, also studied Islam.
I bet he studied English, math, and science too.
That background sparked rumors that he had studied in a radical madrassa, or Quranic school -- rumors his campaign denied, declaring that Obama is now a practicing Christian.
No, you airhead. Those were not rumors. Those were LIES.
They were not 'sparked' by his background. They were fabricated by a rightwing outfit tied to a religous cult. An outfit so credibility-challenged that it not only fails to reveal the names of its sources, but doesn't even identify the name of the people writing for it!
And those lies were not simply denied, they were proven false by CNN.
Last month, the Los Angeles Times interviewed people who grew up with Obama. "We prayed in the mosque," one of them said, "but not seriously," noting that Obama also prayed with his Catholic schoolmates.
Again, Couric is biased against the facts.
The candidate was raised "in a secular household in Indonesia by his stepfather and mother," his chief spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said in a statement in January after false reports began circulating that Obama had attended a radical madrasa, or Koranic school, as a child.

Interviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends show that Obama was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia, despite being listed as a Muslim on the registration form for the Catholic school, Strada Asisia, where he attended 1st through 3rd grades.
Sometimes Lolo went to the mosque to pray, but he rarely socialized with people," said Fermina Katarina Sinaga, Obama's 3rd-grade teacher at the Catholic school, who lived near the family. "Rarely, Barry went to the mosque with Lolo."
Zulfan Adi, a former neighborhood playmate of Obama's who has been cited in news reports as saying Obama regularly attended Friday prayers with Soetoro, told the Tribune he was not certain about that when pressed about his recollections. He only knew Obama for a few months, during 1970, when his family moved to the neighborhood.

It's too soon to know what America will decide about Barack Obama or his background, but it's not too soon to wonder if America will see that as an asset or a liability.
This kinda speaks for itself. All that's missing is the 'some people say.'
That's a page from my notebook. I'm Katie Couric, CBS News.
Reports of this notebook have sparked rumors that Katie Couric copied her script from Roger Ailes. It's too soonto know what America will conclude, but it's not too soon to know that Katie Couric is a liability to the profession of journalism.
