After Doug Lamborn's sleezy campaign in Colorado's 5th Congressional District race in 2006 against Jay Fawcett, it appears he has raised very little money toward a re-election in 2008. Cara Degette makes an excellent report on how Lamborn raised his money from out of state in 2006 whereas Jay Fawcett raised his money primarily in-state. Lamborn's mercenaries have not come through for him, based on first quarter reports for 2007, pre-saging the right time for Fawcett to run again in 2008.
Following the 5th CD Money Trail as reported by Degette
Jay Fawcett should actively consider running again in 2008. The stars are in alignment for such an effort. Lamborn's having been abandoned by local Republicans in Colorado is noted in many different political blogs. While the Club for Growth may have carried the day for Lamborn in 2006, mercenary armies cannot win wars, just battles. Further, it appears that in Lamborn's financial reports for the 1st Quarter of 2007 that he not only raised a mere $75,000, but, paid in the 1st Quarter of 2007 to "The Rainmakers" $40,000 for fundraising and reported an outstanding $16,000 owed to "The Rainmakers" as fundraising commissions, suggesting that Lamborn incurred obligations of $56,000 to raise $75,000. It cannot be determined definitively that the $40,000 paid in the first quarter was for the $75,000 total raised, but, based on Lamborn's situation in the Republican party in the 5th CD, it's a reasonable interpretation. Lamborn is weak. Very weak. And, of the $75,000 that Lamborn raised, $50,000 was from PACs, $25,000 from individuals. If Lamborn is spending $56,000 to raise $75,000 and only $25,000 is from individuals, it really does look like Lamborn is crippled in local Republican circles. Time for Jay to buckle up and get ready to make that second try in 2008!
