If the words below don't stop this war, I am not sure anything will:
"If the United States is going to have a significant component of its ground forces in Iraq over the next five, 10, 15 or 30 years, then the responsible course is for the president and those supporting this open-ended and escalated presence in Iraq to call for reinstating the draft."
Of course we know that:
The draft, though, is one of those political dirty words that most lawmakers don’t want to hear.
Yet exactly how are we supposed to continue this fight without a draft?
Our forces are not only overextended, the new recruits are falling short of the standards the military once had:
"Ten percent of Army recruits are of low caliber and do not belong in uniform," he said, noting that the number of moral waivers has increased, the percentage of high school graduates has dropped, and the average age of first-time enlistees is rising.
Because of concerns about who is being recruited and even who is being retained, Andrew Krepinevich of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments said he is not even certain it is wise to make the planned 95,000 increase.
So are the war supporters going to do what the "responsible" thing and "call for reinstating the draft?" Or, are we going to destroy our military? There really aren't many other options to this problem. I have to wonder how many of those who support this war, like Malkin, will put out the call for a draft? If they support this war then they need to do the responsible thing and call for a draft.
If there is no support for a draft (which there is not), our Democrats need to stand strong against Bush and his threatened veto of the funding bill which will require a timeline. If Bush wants to veto the bill, fine, let him, let him be the one to explain to America that we can't have a timeline for withdrawl which basically means that at some point we will need a draft. Let our Democrats ask this question over and over, who among the war supporters will be the first to call for a draft? And if those who wave the flag and support this war will NOT call for a draft we MUST start to bring our troops home before we completely destroy our military.
So which is it? Bring our troops home by signing the funding bill or calling for a draft to fight your war? You see, if Bush doesn't sign the bill he is stating that our involvement in Iraq will be for at least another five years and most likely for decades. And if that is the case we must call for a draft to save our military.
Make no mistake, we cannot continue this war in Iraq for another five years this way and to stay in Iraq we must have a draft. Americans will not stand for a draft in this war, they already won't support this president or this war, and it is our duty to make sure that Americans realize that any continued support of this war will result in the drafting of our young men.
Mission accomplished.
