Here's a stunner I haven't seen get too much play. Reported by Dana Milbank for the WaPo:
...the conservative lawmakers who came to hear the actor cum senator cum actor were of one voice when they spoke of Thompson as a possible white knight. To hear them tell it, the current crop of Republican presidential candidates has left them variably famished, parched and suffocating.
"...[Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC)] was even more blunt. "I'm looking for somebody who can excite America after seven failed years of George Bush,"

WHOA.

Seven.
Failed.
Years.
Of George Bush.
From a (yet another) Republican.
It makes you wonder, what will it be like in summer 2008, at the GOP National Convention? What will the response be like when Bush and or Cheney take the podium? What will they have to say about themselves? What will the nominees and runner-ups say about them?
