I watched about 75% of the hearings and I think "going down in flames" is putting it lightly. Gonzales cant be long for his Job. Everyone is talking about Coburn Dumping him but I though Graham had the best line of them all which Coburn stole a bit of his thunder on later on:
[paraphrasing] "Dont you think that the reasons of poor management and leadership could also apply to you today?"
So who is the new AG? Bush could actually impress me for once and just appoint Fitzgerald? Am I nuts? Would there be anyone who would block this at all (I mean besides Cheney and Libby - talk about "go F yourself").

It seems like:
- Fitz obviously understands impartiality and the law (He wouldn't even testify at the Plame hearings.)
- Fitz is one of the most admired Prosecutors by both politicians and people in the Department. I though he was named prosecutor of the year a couple years ago.
- Fitz goes after everyone (the biggest part of accusations of the purge) He goes after terrorists, Libby, Governors, etc.
- I always got that vaguely Republican vibe from him.
So of course it will probably never happen.
But are there any legal reasons why it couldn't? Or are Prosecutors normally not appointed to such spots. I have no idea.
All I figure is that he would get confirmed in about 4 minutes, Democrats would probably love him, he gets the idea of not leaking all the time, and he seems like a really solid guy who knows how to remain impartial and follow the evidence, at a time when the DOJ is desperate for credibility .... he could probably go a long way to cleaning up this mess (assuming anyone wanted it to get cleaned up).
Just my 2 cents. Probably makes too much sense to ever happen....I guess there is always hope.
