In a very highly unusual move the Republican controlled House voted overwhelmingly to overturn Governor Sonny Perdue's veto of the states budget.
The vote made the Lt. Governor mad and he informed the House Leadership that their vote was unconstitutional. He stated that they needed to wait until after the Governor returned the vetoed bill to the House Chamber before they could vote on it.
Just when you things can't get any stranger in the South, the Georgia Republicans are trying to make Cynthia McKinney look sane. Here is a link to the news report since I lived in Augusta from 1985 until I medically retired and moved to Columbia, SC I tend to still pay attention to Georgia State News.
Personally I am glad to see the elected officials in Georgia standing up to W's "friend" Sonny Perdue
It was a rare move of defiance by the Republican-controlled House, whose leaders boasted the vote was the first time the chamber had voted to reverse a governor's veto of a spending plan. Yet the Senate seemed cool to the idea, setting up a possible standoff over the state's constitution.
After the House vote, a delegation of House leaders trooped over to the Senate to report the override vote, but received an icy reception from Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, who said the House vote was unconstitutional.
State law requires the governor to transmit the veto to the House before they can vote to override it, and Cagle said the governor had yet to do so.
Now if this could only become contagious to the House and Senate in Washington DC and they could overturn W's promised veto's, nah lightning doesn't strike twice.
