An expansion on this diary.
Here's a list of non-incumbents who have formed a committee for statewide office in 2008
Governor: Attorney General Jay Nixon (D)
Lt. Governor: Mike Evans (D-Arnold)
Treasurer: Mark Powell (D-Arnold)
Attorney General: MO Sen Pres Pro Tem Michael Gibbons (R-Kirkwood) and Jeff Harris (D-Columbia)
These are the cards on the table, now to the wildcards. The candidates for "Statewide Office"
Basically, these are the people who are considering being a candidate, but don't want to make their reservations right now.
Here's the list of people with "Statewide Candidate" committees:
Steve Gaw (D-Moberly, dormant committee), Joe Maxwell (D-Mexico, former Lt. Gov, a possible candidate), Chuck Gross (R-St. Charles, State Senator), Sarah Steelman (R-Rolla, State Treasurer), Maida Coleman (D-St. Louis, State Senator), Delbert Scott (R-Lowry City, State Senator), Jack Jackson (R-Wildwood, Former House Member, Auditor Candidate), Rod Jetton (R-Marble Hill, House Speaker), Charlie Shields (R-St. Joseph, State Senator), Harry Kennedy (D-St. Louis, State Senator), Chris Koster (R-Harrisonville, State Senator), Sam Page (D-Creve Coeur, State Rep), Jim Lembke.
Gaw and Maxwell are probably not likely candidates. Their committees exist, but they're not doing much. Joe Maxwell would probably be a good statewide candidate if he wanted to run.
Kennedy and Gross are both State Senators who are term-limited and out after 2008.
Steelman is a definate wildcard, because she might challenge Blunt. But, I'm expecting her to run for re-election and run in 2012. But she is definately bringing the hype to try and impress the base, stuff like terror-free investment funds that keeps coming up in PRs every month or so.
Maida Coleman took a pass on the Auditor's race, and i'm still not sure if she's out after 2008 (she was elected in February 2002 and the constitution for partial terms and term limits was changed in November 2002).
I'm expecting Delbert Scott to run for Secretary of State. Just because his main cause has been the unconstitutional Voter ID bill.
Jack Jackson will probably run for something and turn a primary into the reprise of the 2006 Auditor Primary.
Rod Jetton doesn't have a Senate seat to run for after he's term-limited out in 2008, so he's semi-likely to run.
Shields and Scott are both out of the Senate after 2010 as well.
It wouldn't shock me if Kennedy runs for an office like Lt. Governor.
Jim Lembke is one of the people who opposes Stem Cell Research, so he's probably hoping he can find a good opening to run for office.
I'm not totally sure what Sam Page is aiming towards.
Ok then.
Time for tips, more info on current prospective candidates, or more info in general. Or you could repeat rumors. Whatever works for you all.
