So, on April 17, Dana Rohrbacher, speaking at a meeting of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee, said he hopes that if you are against indiscriminately torturing people, he wants your family to suffer a terrorist attack.
You can see Rohrbacher's comments courtesy of Think Progress.
Col. Ann Wright was there, and here is her account.
You know, this sort of nonsensical talk is blathered every day by witless clowns sitting in smoky bars across the country. Fortunately, most of the time, it's just bar talk (unless it ends up on Fox News).
Now however, we seem to have elevated bar talk to legitimate political debate about torture and the rights of American citizens.
I'm not sure who was first here: John McCain and the silly "Bomb bomb Iran" or Dana Rohrbacher with his crazy screed.
Mr. Rohrbacher, I hope that no one in your family is the victim of a terrorist attack. In fact, I hope that no one is the victim of a terrorist attack. However, I also hope that one day you will understand that wholesale sweeps of "suspects" who become so because of their names or looks, followed by the indiscriminate torture of those people has little or no chance of stopping any terrorist attack. The evidence is clear that professional-style police work, following leads, concentrating on suspects to whom reliable information can be tied, and then following the legal process has been much more effective in deterring terrorism.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rohrbacher, I hope that you will have the opportunity to see your remarks played again and again on television in Southern California, especially when we get closer to the November 08 election.
