I was at the gym this morning and I saw on CNN a promotional interview (read: pimping) of Glenn Beck's special on Global Warming.
It was very clear from the interview and CNN's promotional (read: pimping) ticker on the bottom of the screen that Glenn Beck intends to argue that there are two sides to the debate (each one having equal weight to start) and that global warming is overblown and is nothing more than a fear campaign initiated by environmental activists and spread by Al Gore.
It doesn't bother me that Glenn Beck, as a right wing political commentator, chooses to take the oil and gas lobby's view on global warming. He doesn't appear to be sophisticated enough to understand science or to believe that there are unassailable facts which can't be denied by mere tv spin.
What bothers me is that CNN, a global news network, was promoting an idea which is a falsehood: that there is no consensus on global warming and that it is a 'theory' which can be refuted. One can't refute the basic tenets of climate change any more than one can refute that 1 + 1 = 2.
It's time to write to CNN and demand that they not play loose with scientific facts.
