What is it? That Rudy Giuliani is a moron of colossal proportions, and the only way he'll be at inauguration day is as a spectator.
From Rudy's flip-flops on all of Dobson's pet issues to his unabashed support for torture, to his own Gonzales-esque stripping of New Yorker's Fourth Amendment rights, to Bernie Kerik, everything about the guy says that he has toys in the attic.
But his latest takes the cake. His claims that he "usually" hears Democrats blame America for 9/11, and his retort to Ron Paul that it was "absurd" to suggest that the US presence in the Middle East was the reason Al Qaida launched an attack, plainly identify Rudy as an unmitigated fool.
Let's make this so simple that even Rudy can understand it: If you punch a bully in the nose, you'd better be prepared to defend yourself from the counter-punch.
I'm not going to defend the merits of the US military presence in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, nor the low-level war waged on Iraq for ten years. It doesn't matter if the cause was 100% just and the intentions 100% pure. You can't drop bombs without pissing somebody off. And to ignore the pissed off people, despite ample warning, and allow the deaths of 3,000 people by failing to defend ourselves means--by any stretch of the imagination--that the destruction of the World Trade Center was America's fault.
The DNC issued an appropriate reply:
There Rudy goes again trying to use scare tactics to win votes. Rudy should focus on explaining why it is that he didn't face the reality after the first time the world trade center was attacked and improve communications equipment for first responders, and why he failed to protect the health of the ground zero workers and re-opened sections of lower Manhattan when he knew that the air was toxic? What kind of leadership is that?
And let's not forget that he insisted against all the advice of NYPD and several other agencies to put the crisis command center for all of New York City in the World Trade Center, where it was swiftly bombed out of existence on 9/11. Whose fault is it that the command center is no longer there? Rudy couldn't have made it any more vulnerable if he had painted a big red target on it that said "crash plane here."
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go sucker punch Mike Tyson and then close my eyes and hope he doesn't hit me back. But when I come back bloody, you'd better not blame me for my broken face. That would be unpatriotic.
